Course Description

Mental Health First Aid is the help provided to a person experiencing a decline in their mental health or a mental health crisis. The MHFA course is designed for anyone looking to grow their confidence and skill in responding to individuals who are struggling with wellness. This training provides education, tools and a step by step framework for how to respond to mental health decline, emergency or crisis - in a way that is safe and healthy for both the Mental Health First Aider and individual receiving support. MHFA can be used in workplaces, with colleagues, friends and family or in communities. There is extensive research that finds MHFA effective internationally. Training Outcomes

  • Increased confidence in responding to people experiencing mental health challenge, crisis or emergency

  • Able to recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being

  • Able to address your own self-care after responding to someone who requires MHFA

  • Know how to start conversation with people to:

    • Talk about their mental well-being when you recognize they are struggling

    • Discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental well-being

    • Assist in a mental health or substance use crisis/emergency situation

    • Check in with one’s own mental well-being and take action as needed

Registration

  • Must be 18+

  • Must be interested and curious about mental health

  • Must be able to attend and participate in a virtual workshop, and have access to a computer with a working microphone and video camera
